The projector sits in front of the whiteboard and projects the computer image on the whiteboard.
The screen on which the image is projected is touch-sensitive and linked to the computer. This means that tapping an icon on the screen with a finger is equivalent to clicking that icon with the mouse. Special pens allow the tutor to 'write' with 'digital ink' directly on the screen.
Interactive whiteboards will be most effective in HE when used to support small-group seminars and tutorials. They can simply be used as presentation devices, but will only fulfil their potential when they are used to enable learning activities. They are a tool which can open up all kinds of possibilities for a creative tutor.
